Written in the Cards: A Look Inside Our Monthly Tarot Gathering with Shaman Jeff

Once a month at The Village Mystic, a small group gathers for our Tarot get-together with Shaman Jeff. Some people are just starting out, others have been reading cards for years—but no matter your level, everyone is welcome. It’s always a fun, relaxed group, and there’s something new to take away each time.

Shaman Jeff often says, “The cards don’t lie—they paint a picture and tell a story.” That’s the heart of the class. It’s not just about memorizing meanings; it’s about learning how to interpret what you see, feel, and intuit. Every deck has a different style, but Shaman Jeff always recommends starting your journey with the Rider-Waite deck. Its imagery is time-tested and symbolic. Once you learn it, you’ll find it easier to connect with other decks, even the more abstract ones. It gives you a solid foundation to work from—and builds your confidence as a reader.

One of the most common questions we hear is: Do you have to pick your own deck, or can someone gift it to you? Honestly, there are two schools of thought on this one. Some people feel strongly that a reader must choose their own deck, while others believe the right deck can absolutely find you—whether it’s through a friend, a loved one, or even a stranger. Around here, we say: let your intuition be your guide. If you’re shopping for someone and a deck jumps out at you that just feels like them, that’s probably the right one.

Tarot is a powerful tool for self-reflection, guidance, and growth. Whether you're reading for yourself, for others, or just exploring the meanings behind the cards, there’s always more to uncover. Our monthly class fills up quickly, so if you’ve been curious about Tarot, now’s the time to give it a try.
