There's something about a summer full moon that just feels a little different.

One of the things I love about summer in Florida is that life seems to slow down just a little. It reminds me to do the same. The first full moon after the Summer Solstice feels like the perfect excuse to step outside, look up for a few minutes, and just breathe.

People ask us about the full moon all the time at the shop. Some are curious about moon energy. Others want to know if they should put their crystals outside or which ones are good to work with.

The answer is usually much simpler than people expect. You don't need to know everything about moon phases, and you certainly don't need a big crystal collection. Sometimes all you need is a few quiet minutes to yourself.

If you've never worked with the full moon before, don't overthink it. And if you have, maybe this month's full moon is simply a reminder to slow down for a little while.

If you're just getting started, you might also enjoy reading our blog, Full Moon Energy & How to Work With It. It covers the basics and is a great place to begin.

A Good Time to Check In With Yourself

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year. The first full moon that follows always feels like a little pause. I'm looking at it as a chance to check in with myself.  What's going well? What's been weighing on me?  What am I ready to let go of?  You don't have to come up with all the answers. Sometimes simply asking yourself those questions is enough.

If you've spent any time around Jeff, you've probably heard him say, "Energy follows attention." It's one of those simple reminders that sticks with you. If all we think about is what's stressful or frustrating, that's exactly where our energy stays. The full moon is a wonderful reminder to shift our attention toward the things we'd like more of in our lives.

That brings me to another one of my favorite moments in the shop. Someone will come in looking for "the right crystal." They'll pick one up, put it back, walk around the store, pick up a few more, and somehow … they always seem to end up back at the first crystal!

Shaman Jeff just smiles and says, "The crystal calls to you." It's one of his favorite sayings. And after watching this happen over and over again, we've learned to trust it.

Crystals We Love During the Full Moon

One of the questions we hear a lot is, "Which crystals should I work with during the full moon?" The truth is, there isn't one perfect crystal. The one you're naturally drawn to is usually the best place to start. That said, there are a few we come back to again and again.

If I had to choose one crystal for a full moon, this would probably be it. I love using a Selenite bowl or charging plate to hold the crystals I'm working with. It creates such a peaceful feeling and is an easy way to reconnect with your collection.

Moonstone has always felt like a natural fit for working with the full moon. It's a beautiful reminder to trust your intuition and listen to that quiet inner voice that often gets drowned out by everyday life.

Whenever life feels like it's changing, Labradorite is one of the first crystals I reach for. It's a wonderful reminder that growth often comes from stepping into something new.

Clear Quartz is one of the most versatile crystals you can own. If you're setting intentions during the full moon, it's a beautiful crystal to keep nearby.

When life feels busy or my mind won't slow down, Amethyst is one I always come back to. Sometimes we all need a little help finding a sense of calm.

And if you're standing in the shop wondering which one to choose… You already know what Jeff is going to say, "The crystal calls to you." Trust yourself.

A Simple Full Moon Ritual

One of the biggest misconceptions about working with the full moon is that it has to be complicated.

It doesn't. Here's all you really need:

  • Light a candle.

  • Hold the crystal that called to you.

  • Take a few deep breaths.

  • Spend a few quiet minutes outside if you can.

  • Write in a journal... or don't.

There isn't a right or wrong way to do this. The important part is giving yourself permission to slow down.

Cleansing Your Crystals

One of the questions we hear all the time is, "Should I put my crystals under the full moon?"

If you enjoy doing that, absolutely. Some people place them outside overnight. Others put them on a windowsill. Some prefer to cleanse them with Selenite, sage, or Palo Santo instead.

The method isn't nearly as important as the intention behind it. The full moon simply gives us a reason to reconnect with our crystals and the intentions we've set.

Just remember that some crystals shouldn't be left in direct sunlight for long periods or placed in water, so it's always a good idea to know the best way to care for your stones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have crystals o work with the full moon?

Not at all. Crystals can be a wonderful tool, but they aren't required. Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do is simply spend a few quiet minutes outside, reflect, and enjoy the beauty of the full moon.

Can I set intentions during a full moon?

Absolutely. While many people think of the full moon as a time to release what no longer serves them, it's also a wonderful time to reflect on where you are in life and focus on what you'd like to bring more of into the weeks ahead.

Can I leave my crystals out overnight?

Many people enjoy placing their crystals outside or on a windowsill overnight so they can sit in the moonlight. If you decide to do that, just be sure they're in a safe place and remember that some crystals are better suited for moonlight than direct sunlight.

Do I need a full moon ritual?

Not at all. There isn't a right or wrong way to connect with the energy of the full moon. If your ritual is simply stepping outside, taking a deep breath, and slowing down for a few minutes, that's enough.
